Happy Holidays Everyone!
Hello Everyone,
First of all, I just want to wish everyone a very happy holiday season! A lot has happened this last year, including me spraining both of my ankles back in May. It’s a long story, and I’m still not completely healed, but I am able to get around pretty good now. Because of my sprained ankles, I haven’t been able to take as many photographs this year as I would have liked. However, I already had some photo collages that I hadn’t posted yet, so here’s a new one for you. It’s called “Flowered Abbott Lighthouse”. The picture of the lighthouse was taken back in 2009, when there was a dedication ceremony honoring a plaque of the three Hawaiian princes, that introduced surfing to the United States in 1883, right here in Santa Cruz, CA. You can see the pretty flowers surrounding the brick enclosure holding the plaque, which is facing the lighthouse. This Santa Cruz photo collage is also cut different than the others. Stay tuned, there’s more to come! Again, Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Susan Kessler

1st Friday Exhibit at “Go Ask Alice”
Hello Friends and Art Lovers,
I wanted to let you know that you’re all invited to 1st Friday at “Go Ask Alice”, 1125 Pacific Ave., Santa Cruz, CA, where I’m so honored to be showing my Santa Cruz inspired photo collages and matted photography prints. They will be on display Sept. 1 – 25, 2017. If you’re in the area, I hope you’ll stop by and check it out.
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Fall, and it will be here before we know it. Most of our tourists are gone now, so Santa Cruz is starting to get back to (our way) of normal. Enjoy this time of year, but let’s not forget that the people of Houston, Texas are not so fortunate right now. I’m sure we all wish them well and hopefully some of us can make donations to help them out, through the Red Cross. Take care everyone.

New View of Surfer’s Paradise
Hello Fellow Art Lovers,
Here’s another take on the original “Surfer’s Paradise”. This one is called “New View of Surfer’s Paradise”. Using the same two photographs, this time with an “oval” shaped design, I wanted to bring the viewer into another way to view this beautiful coastal town of Santa Cruz. The actual name of the surfer statue is called “To Honor Surfing” done by Thomas Marsh and Brian Curtis. It recently celebrated it’s 25th Anniversary on May 27, 2017 with Thomas Marsh making a special appearance for the occasion.
Surfing in America started here in Santa Cruz, CA in 1885, when three Hawaiian Prince’s introduced surfing while here on a visit. They had a local mill make fifteen foot surfboards out of redwood for them. In 2010 a bronze plaque was dedicated to them that rests in front of the Mark Abbott Lighthouse. It all started here in Santa Cruz!
I hope everyone is enjoying this summer! The weather here has been great! Our “Indian Summer” starts around Aug. 15th or so. That’s when it starts getting a little hotter. The temperatures in Santa Cruz usually stay in the upper sixties, but of course, it gets colder in the winter and hotter towards the end of summer. Have a great one!
Sincerely,
Susan Kessler

New Art and Virtual Gallery Inclusion
Hello Everyone,
Just a little update on what’s been happening lately in my art world. First of all, I wanted to let you know that my painting called “The Earth is Flat” can now be viewed in a virtual art gallery at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnk_1S2G-oE&feature=youtube. It’s done by Artists Info in England. I have a page on their website at: www.artistsinfo.co.uk/artist/susan-kessler. And this month, I’m one of the four “Artists of the Month” on their homepage.
Also, as of late, I’ve been doing a different style of photo collage. I just like to bring the viewer into a new and unique way to view Santa Cruz. Change can do an artist good sometimes!
With these “oval” shaped photo collages, I’ve decided to offer them as 12″x18″/18″x12″ sizes. Therefore, they will be more affordable, and nowadays, who doesn’t like that? Of course, they can be ordered in the 20″x30″/30″x20″ sizes also. The photo collage below is called “Blue Ocean Sunset in Purple Flowers”. I hope you’ll check out my “Photo Collages” page to see more of my most recent works.
And have an awesome spring into summer!
Sincerely,
Susan Kessler

Our “Cement Ship” The Way it Was
Hello Everyone,
This was the way our “Cement Ship” looked, before the recent storms. It’s real name is the “S.S. Palo Alto”. My digital photo collage called “Cement Ship Sunsets” offers a unique and different way to look into the past and remember this beautiful landmark in Santa Cruz County. The ship is still there, but broken into pieces, so it will never look like this again. I’m so glad I was able to photograph it at different times, beforehand. Soon our stormy season will be over and Santa Cruz will have beautiful spring weather and lots of pretty flowers. Have a great and fun
springtime everyone!
Sincerely,
Susan Kessler
